A gorgeous hour on a saturday morning meeting the animals, and eating delicious treats.
We popped by Oxford City Farm on a sunny Saturday morning in March for a gentle wander round the animals. It's not huge but it's amazing to see how much farming can be done on a small city plot. There’s a lovely community atmosphere here, it's a gorgeous place to slow down and say hello to the pigs, goats and chickens.
Little Leopard loved getting the attention of the sociable goats, and eating the delicious brownie we bought from cafe at the farmers market.
I was really interested to see the creative engineering with what I think was solar powered irrigation, and to marvel at how they make the magic happen, as a community run endeavour, and in harmony with nature.
With everything that's awful in the world at the moment, it really filled my cup to see how project is being run in such a concious way.
There are so many different ways to get involved with this gem. If we lived closer I'd definitely be signing up to one of their education programmes and putting my name down as a volunteer (milking the goats, errrr, YES please!)
They're so involved with running diferent groups and events, so check out what's on at their website .
If you visit on a Saturday morning then make sure that to maximise the fun by buying a cup of feed for the sheep and goats for 50p. They also have a play area for younger children, and story time in a yurt which had the most zen atmosphere I've come across in Oxford.
We spent a very happy hour here, but it was March, the chickens were shut up and there were no options to feed the animals. I think if we went later in the year, we'd spend a bit longer.
There are plenty places nearby to extend the adventuring, especially if you're taking advantage of getting to the farm by bus and don't need the walk to be a circular one (street parking near the farm is limited). We walked down the footpath to the north of the farm, passing by Florence Park and crossing the Cowley Marsh Recreation Ground where Little Leopard enjoyed the playground and I enjoyed watching some cheeky Jackdaws. Our walk joined up to the Cowley Marsh Nature Reserve, over the golf course and into the fairytale-like Lye Valley.

A rare, traditional breed of pig that nearly went extinct 20 years ago.
We loved kickstarting our Saturday with chilled, peaceful energy from this comunity focussed city farm.
